Private Pay and Superbills

My practice is private pay. That keeps decisions about your care between you and me, and means no diagnosis has to be shared with an insurance company unless you choose to seek reimbursement.

If you want to use out-of-network benefits, I provide a superbill on request. Reimbursement is your insurer's decision, and I cannot promise what your plan will pay.

  1. Check your plan

Ask whether it covers out-of-network outpatient mental health care.

  2. Ask me for a superbill

A receipt with the details insurers ask for.

  3. Submit it

You send it to your insurer, and any reimbursement is paid to you.

Cancellations

Please give 24 hours' notice of cancellations. I am flexible in finding rescheduling solutions. Otherwise, I charge the full fee.

Planning for Therapy

Most people meet weekly. We can talk about pace and frequency in relation to your goals, and how the schedule and fees fit your circumstances before you decide.

Good Faith Estimate

Under the No Surprises Act, if you are not using insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before your care begins. Ask for one at any time. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you may dispute the bill. For more information, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

Questions About Cost

When is payment due?

Payment is due on the day of, or the day after a session unless we arrange otherwise. If you have a practical question about payment, ask me when we discuss starting.

Is the consultation really free?

Yes. The 20 to 30 minute consultation has no charge and no obligation. It gives you time to ask about the work before deciding whether to arrange a full session.

Do couples and family sessions cost the same as individual sessions?

Yes, the charge is the same as sessions for individuals.

Do you accept insurance directly?

No, I am private pay and not in network with insurance plans. I provide a superbill on request if you want to seek out-of-network reimbursement, but I cannot promise what your plan will reimburse.

Can I use an HSA or FSA card?

Please ask me; many people use these accounts for therapy, and I can tell you what I accept.
