A Guide From David

Grieving a Relationship

A relationship can end while feelings about it remain complicated. You may miss the person, feel relief, regret what happened or grieve the future you expected. Those experiences do not have to fit into a simple story.

Name the Different Losses

The loss may include daily contact, a shared home, a role in a family or the plans you built together. We can separate those parts so that the conversation does not collapse into one question about whether the relationship should have continued.

Allow Mixed Feelings

Missing something does not settle whether it was good for you. Feeling relief does not mean the relationship never mattered. I make room for the different meanings you carry, including feelings that seem inconsistent with each other.

Consider What Life Asks Now

There may be practical choices to make while you are still grieving. We can explore how to approach those choices without expecting yourself to have resolved every feeling first. Your boundaries, support and hopes deserve attention alongside the loss.

A Question to Bring With You

Which part of the relationship or the future you imagined is hardest to be without right now?

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I grieve a relationship I chose to leave?

Yes. Choosing a change and feeling loss can exist together.

Do I need to know whether ending it was right?

We can begin with your current experience. Therapy does not require a final verdict before you speak.

A free 20 to 30 minute consultation is a chance to ask questions and consider whether working together feels right.
