A Guide From David

Choosing a Therapy Format

You may know that something needs attention without knowing which kind of therapy to request. We can talk about the concern first, then consider whether individual, couples or adult family sessions offer a useful setting.

Room for Your Own Experience

Individual therapy gives you space to explore your feelings, history, self-understanding and choices. A relationship problem can be a reason to begin individual work. You do not need everyone involved in a situation to attend before you can seek support for yourself.

A Shared Conversation Between Partners

Couples sessions focus on the relationship and the ways two people relate. We may look at repeated conflict, changing hopes, distance or decisions about the future. My role is not to guarantee that a relationship continues, but to help make room for a candid and useful conversation.

When Several Adult Family Members Are Involved

Family work can bring adult generations or other adult family members into the same conversation. We may explore expectations, boundaries, changing responsibilities and the ways each person experiences the relationship. Who attends is something we discuss, not something you have to settle alone before contacting me.

A Starting Point Can Be Discussed

During a consultation, describe who is affected and what you hope might change. We can consider fit, practical arrangements and whether a different service would be more appropriate. The choice of format should follow the work you need, rather than a label you feel required to choose correctly.

A Question to Bring With You

Is your main hope to understand your own experience, change a relationship conversation, or bring several adult perspectives together?
